{Industrial Design + Manufacturing Engineering} The steel shelves in my client’s facilities were packed so tight on each side, that inventory was often found on the floor. While on-site for another project, I suggested a seat belt for the shelving and was surprised by the response of “could you make that?” The “retention banding” is a transparent nylon and rubber elastic with an injection molded custom clip that I developed overseas to keep warehouse products on the shelves, as well as on moving robotic shelving for automated warehouses. The clips universally fit ever major steel shelving company’s products, and over 10 million units have been sold to date. The creation of this product was my introduction to collaborating with many different disciplines including manufacturing engineers and some of the brightest minds working on the cutting edge of robotics development.
